Located at the intersection of Prince Edward and George Streets, Hurkamp Park is an oasis within the bustling heart of downtown Fredericksburg. The aforementioned farmers market is held in this park every Saturday from May through October.

The aforementioned one-of-a-kind park is available for rental, but it is not open to the public during the farmers market months.

There are plenty of other things to see and do around Fredericksburg, including a plethora of museums, antiques shops and more. Sedona Taphouse is a regional chain that opened a Fredericksburg branch in 2015. The restaurant serves American and Italian-style dishes, with a healthy spin on them.

You can even find some delectable pasta and flatbread varieties here. It also has a great bar and lounge area where you can sit back and have some drinks with your loved ones.

Hurkamp Park (900 Prince Edward Street) is a popular spot for local events, concerts and festivals. There’s a historical marker that reads “From Burying Ground to Park,” which shows how a buried cemetery was moved to the site of the park.

Visit the nearby Fredericksburg Battlefield Visitors Center to learn about the city’s Civil War history. The park staff will provide a short talk about the conflict and then take you to Hurkamp Park for a short walk.

The city is a strong Democratic vote in Northern Virginia, and a recent presidential election showed that voters here gave Barack Obama a total of 63.6% of the vote, the highest percentage in the state. In addition, Fredericksburg has a strong German-American heritage and is home to the University of Mary Washington and Germanna Community College.
